China confirms visa-free policy for one month for Russian tourists

(MENAFN) China announced Tuesday that Russian citizens will be allowed to enter the country without a visa for up to 30 days, starting Sept. 15.

The yearlong trial program will run from Sept. 15, 2025, to Sept. 14, 2026, during which “ordinary passport holders from Russia can be exempted from visa to enter China and stay for no more than 30 days for business, tourism, family, friends, visit, exchange and transit purposes,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing.

Guo emphasized the “friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation” between China and Russia across sectors including energy, based on “mutual respect and mutual benefit.”

Addressing U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s criticism of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, Guo said China has “always upheld an objective and adjusted position” on the Ukraine crisis, adding: “We have always been fair and square, and that is for all to see.”

He also described the recent SCO gathering in Tianjin as “the largest scale in the history of the SCO” and “the most productive summit in the history of the SCO.”
