RSF El-Fasher Residential Areas Attacks Leave 18 Dead

(MENAFN) A deadly barrage by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck residential areas in El-Fasher late Monday, killing at least 18 civilians and wounding over 100 more, according to local medical sources.

The Sudan Doctors Network directly accused the RSF of intentionally targeting densely populated neighborhoods in the capital of North Darfur, where women and children were among the casualties.

In a strongly worded statement, the group condemned the attacks as “merely another chapter in a series of brutal crimes that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, which the RSF has been committing for over a year in Darfur.”

It blamed the international community, the United Nations, and the African Union “fully responsible for their disgraceful silence and failure to protect more than half a million civilians trapped inside El-Fasher, who are being subjected daily to shelling, starvation, and slow death.”

Civic groups and local officials in El-Fasher have consistently blamed the RSF for ongoing artillery strikes and military aggression in the city, which has remained under siege since May 10, 2024, despite growing international alarm over its role as a critical humanitarian hub for Darfur’s five states.

The brutal conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which erupted in April 2023, has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and displaced 14 million people, according to the United Nations and Sudanese authorities. However, researchers from U.S.-based universities estimate the actual death toll may be as high as 130,000.
