Japan Endures Hottest Summer on Record

(MENAFN) Japan has experienced its hottest summer on record this year, media reported, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency. According to the agency, the national average temperature for the months of June, July, and August was 2.36°C above the 30-year norm through 2020, setting a new high since the start of temperature recordings in 1898.

This year's scorching temperatures surpassed previous peaks set in 2023 and last summer, which saw an increase of 1.76°C above average, the agency added.

Yoshinori Oikawa, head of the agency's Center for Information on Climate Extremes, described the new record as exceptionally high. He linked the intense heat to global warming, cautioning that, over time, the world will likely experience more extreme summer temperatures.

Meanwhile, media reported that South Korea also faced an unprecedented summer heatwave, marking the hottest season on record for the second year in a row. The Korea Meteorological Administration revealed on Monday that the country’s average temperature from June 1 to August 31 hit 25.7°C, surpassing last year’s 25.6°C and setting a new record since South Korea began recording weather data in 1973.
