Summer 2025 Shatters Britain’s All-Time Heat Records
(MENAFN) Provisional figures from Britain’s Met Office reveal that the summer of 2025 was the hottest on record for the UK. From June 1 to August 31, the average temperature reached 16.10 degrees Celsius, which is 1.51 degrees above the long-term meteorological average and surpasses the previous record of 15.76 degrees set in 2018.
This sustained heat resulted from several factors, including dominant high-pressure systems, unusually warm surrounding seas, and dry spring soils. These conditions allowed temperatures to rise rapidly and remain elevated, with both daytime highs and nighttime lows significantly above average.
The trend of rising temperatures is clear, as the five hottest summers in Britain’s history have all occurred since 2000, highlighting the growing impact of global warming.
Climate scientists from the Met Office pointed out the influence of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, noting that without these emissions, a summer as hot as 2025 would occur only once every 340 years. Under current conditions, however, such extreme heat is expected roughly once every five years, making it approximately 70 times more likely than in a natural climate.
