Shooting Targets Syrian Official in Daraa
(MENAFN) A Syrian local official sustained serious injuries from gunfire in the southern city of Daraa on Monday, according to state media reports.
Media confirmed that Muneef al-Zaim, who serves in the Public Relations Office of the Daraa Provincial Council, was hospitalized after being shot by unidentified assailants within the city.
Authorities have yet to identify those responsible for the attack.
Daraa has recently witnessed a surge in Israeli military operations, including airstrikes and ground incursions, actions deemed violations of Syria’s sovereignty.
In a major political shift, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who ruled for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in December, effectively ending the Ba'ath Party's long-standing rule since 1963. Following this, a transitional government under President Ahmad al-Sharaa was established in January.
