Israel attacks southern Lebanon breaking truce deal yet again
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon, marking the latest violations of the ceasefire established in November 2024. According to a Lebanese media organization, at least 10 strikes targeted Ali al-Taher, the outskirts of Kafr Tibnit, and Upper Nabatieh. The explosions shook nearby homes and caused rockfalls.
The strikes also ignited large forest fires in Ali al-Taher, with civil defense teams struggling to control the blaze. Israel stated that the attacks focused on alleged Hezbollah underground infrastructure and dropped leaflets over Aita al-Shaab warning the group against further activity. No casualties were reported.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated after an Israeli offensive in October 2023, eventually becoming a full-scale war by September 2024, leaving over 4,000 dead and 17,000 injured. While a ceasefire was reached in November 2024, Israeli forces continue near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming they target Hezbollah operations. Israel was expected to withdraw from the region by January 26, 2025, but the deadline was extended to February 18, and five border outposts remain occupied.
