Russia’s Gazprom, Mongolia Seal Gas, Oil Deal
(MENAFN) Russia's energy giant, Gazprom, and the Mongolian government have formalized a cooperation agreement in the gas and oil sectors, announced the company on Tuesday. The memorandum was signed during a high-level visit by Gazprom’s CEO Alexey Miller to Ulaanbaatar.
Miller led a delegation to Mongolia, where he held talks with top officials, including President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Prime Minister Gombojavyn Zandanshatar, and Deputy Prime Minister Sainbuyangiin Amarsaykhan.
“In the presence of President Khurelsukh, Alexey Miller and Sainbuyangiin Amarsaykhan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Mongolia and Gazprom. The document is aimed at developing a partnership in the gas and oil sector,” stated Gazprom.
Discussions in Ulaanbaatar primarily centered on potential joint ventures within the energy sector, with both parties emphasizing future opportunities in natural gas collaboration.
Mongolia is pivotal to regional energy transit, notably in relation to the proposed “Power of Siberia-2” pipeline, which is slated to transport Russian gas to China via Mongolian soil.
