Ukraine, Russia Both Report Drone Shootdowns
(MENAFN) Ukraine’s military announced on Monday that its air defense units successfully neutralized 76 out of 104 drones launched by Russian forces since Sunday evening, while Russia reported intercepting 21 Ukrainian drones during the same period.
The Ukrainian Air Force detailed in a Telegram post that Russian attacks came from multiple directions, including Kursk, Orel, and Millerovo, deploying Shahed attack drones alongside unmanned aerial vehicle simulators.
“The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine,” the statement said.
Drone debris and strike impacts were recorded across 19 locations in northern and eastern Ukraine, where one person was killed and nine wounded in the Sumy region. Local authorities also reported damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.
In a separate update, Ukraine’s General Staff reported 159 combat engagements over the past 24 hours. Russian forces conducted one missile strike, 79 airstrikes, and launched more than 4,700 drone and artillery attacks.
On its side, Moscow claimed its air defenses shot down 21 Ukrainian drones from late Sunday through Monday morning over Smolensk, Bryansk, Oryol, Kaluga, Tver, and the Moscow region, including two headed toward the capital.
The Russian Defense Ministry further asserted its forces destroyed a Ukrainian UAV control center and communications equipment in the Donetsk region.
These recent exchanges come amid a surge in drone warfare between the two sides, targeting military installations, infrastructure, and border areas.
