(MENAFN) Poland has emerged as the world’s leading target for politically and socially motivated cyberattacks, with over 450 incidents recorded in the second quarter of 2025, a Polish broadcaster reported over the weekend, citing data from Spain’s Industrial Cybersecurity Center (ZIUR).

According to the report, Poland heads the list of countries most affected by hacktivism—the use of hacking to pursue political or social objectives—followed by Ukraine, the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Lithuania, Romania, and Israel.

Government agencies and the energy sector faced the highest volume of attacks, with organizations supporting Ukraine described as especially vulnerable.

ZIUR’s first-quarter analysis had already flagged a “drastic increase” in cyberattacks targeting European state bodies, identifying pro-Russian groups as some of the most active perpetrators.

The center also noted that Europe accounted for the largest portion of global hacktivist activity, recording more than 2,500 successful denial-of-service attacks from April through June.
