Turkish first lady urges Melania Trump in letter to extend compassion in Gaza
(MENAFN) Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan on Saturday wrote to US First Lady Melania Trump, calling on her to extend the empathy she demonstrated for Ukraine to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In the letter, Erdogan warmly recalled their meeting at the White House six years ago, noting the lasting impression of Trump’s gracious hospitality and their meaningful conversation.
Referring to Trump’s recent letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the Ukraine war, Erdogan praised her awareness of global issues. She highlighted Trump’s assertion that “every child has the universal and undeniable right to grow up in a loving and safe environment,” emphasizing that this right transcends region, ethnicity, religion, or ideology.
Erdogan lauded Trump’s advocacy for Ukrainian children affected by the war, calling it a “hope-inspiring initiative.” She urged that the same compassion be applied to Gaza, where 62,000 civilians—including 18,000 children—have been killed over the past two years.
“Indeed, it is time to show the same important sensitivity for Gaza,” Erdogan wrote, underscoring the humanitarian imperative.
