Torrential Rains, Flooding Claim Three Lives in Yemen
(MENAFN) Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in Yemen have claimed the lives of three individuals, including two young children, with authorities issuing a warning for further downpours and thunderstorms.
The Interior Ministry reported that two children, aged six and eight, drowned in the floodwaters in the Jidfra area of Bayhan district, located in western Shabwa province. Additionally, a man lost his life in a separate incident in the Tarim district of Hadramout province, in the country’s east.
According to Yemen’s Center for Weather Forecasts and Early Warning, the heavy rains, coupled with thunderstorms, are expected to continue affecting southern, eastern, and western coastal regions, as well as the Socotra Archipelago. The agency cautioned residents to stay away from valleys and flood-prone areas and advised drivers to be mindful of reduced visibility due to the ongoing weather conditions.
The recent deluge has already caused significant damage to homes and property across the country. In a related event earlier this week, severe rainfall caused part of the historic Eastern Fort in Saafan district, Sanaa province, to collapse.
