Andrew Prevett brings over two decades of combined experience in the Australian Army and state law enforcement to his work as a social work researcher, offering a distinctive practitioner-informed perspective. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) from Charles Sturt University and commenced his PhD at Flinders University in 2024. He currently works as a research assistant within the Open Door Initiative: Improving the wellbeing of veterans and public safety personnel and their families within the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work.

Andrew's doctoral research critically examines the Australian veterans' non-profit sector and its role in supporting the well-being of military veterans and their families in post-service life. His work interrogates the sector's governance structures, service provision, and cultural competence, while analysing how systemic fragmentation, competition for funding, and shifting socio-political dynamics undermine effective support delivery.

Beyond his doctoral work, Andrew has co-authored reports for the Department of Veterans' Affairs and Veterans SA, contributing to national and state-level veteran policy initiatives. He was commissioned to design, develop, and implement a multi-campus veteran cultural competency program at the University of New South Wales, aimed at strengthening institutional responsiveness to veteran learners.

Andrew has also published on topics including veteran help-seeking behaviour, social well-being, military cultural competence in healthcare, and on higher education. His current program of research builds on previous empirical work, including a pilot study and honours dissertation that revealed delayed service engagement and evolving patterns of support use among veterans-particularly among younger and woman veterans.

Andrew's dedication to this field is shaped by his own lived experience and professional practice within the veteran and law enforcement communities. This, combined with his academic expertise, enables him to contribute nuanced insights into the realities veterans face and the systemic reforms required to safeguard their well-being in contemporary Australia.
