76 Reported Dead in Afghanistan Tragic Bus Crash

(MENAFN) At least 76 people, including multiple children, lost their lives late Tuesday in a catastrophic road accident in western Afghanistan, according to media. The deadly collision involved a passenger bus, a truck, and a motorcycle on the Herat-Islam Qala highway in Herat province.

The bus, transporting Afghan migrants repatriated from Iran, burst into flames following the crash.

Officials from the local Taliban administration confirmed the fatality count, adding that three survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

Ahmadullah Muttaqi, the interim director of information and culture for Herat province, explained that the bus had originated in Iran and was traveling from the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat toward Kabul, the capital.

The highway, a key transport route for returning migrants, has long been known for hazardous driving conditions and insufficient traffic safety measures.
