Olena Borodyna is a Senior Geopolitical Risks Advisor in the Global Risks and Resilience programme. Her thematic expertise spans the geopolitics of critical minerals, energy security, and the cascading impacts of climate and geopolitical risks on global supply chains. She also leads portfolios on Ukraine's reconstruction and the Russia-Ukraine war, analysing their evolving implications for the global order.

She leads thematic development across risk-informed energy transition pillar and contributes to shaping the Centre for the Geopolitics of Global Change (CGGC). Olena's work focuses on helping clients navigate the risks and opportunities of a world undergoing major transitions, addressing challenges such as geopolitical and energy transition risks through intelligence and advisory to enhance commercial and strategic outcomes.

Olena has extensive experience advising on (geo)political, climate, and ESG-related risks in the infrastructure, energy, and mining sectors across Asia and Africa, with particular expertise in Chinese overseas investment. Her earlier roles include positions in business intelligence and renewable energy, as well as delivering advisory for the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Transport on low-carbon hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels.

Her insights on geopolitical risks and the energy transition have been featured in leading media outlets, including Bloomberg, South China Morning Post, Cipher, Caixin, and iNews. She regularly participates in international and sectoral forums and maintains strong on-the-ground networks to inform her analysis and advisory work.

She holds an MA in Geopolitics, Territory and Security from King's College London and a BA in Chinese and History from SOAS, University of London. Olena is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Ukrainian, and Russian, and is currently learning Spanish and Arabic.
