James Paton Gilmour
My previous research focused on the ecology and mass spawning of corals on the Great Barrier Reef, with researchers from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Aquarium, James Cook University and the Museum of Tropical Queensland. My current research at the Australia Institute of Marine Science focuses on the remote oceanic reefs of north-western Australia and the near-shore reefs in the Kimberley region. I lead AIMS' monitoring programs at the oceanic reefs, where we collect descriptive, demographic and genetic data to inform long-term dynamics- increasingly, we focus on the effects of climate change and coral bleaching. I work with researchers, industry, and state and federal regulators to communicate the state of Western Australia's coral reefs and to manage their condition through coming decades.
