Tennis competition take place to celebrate China-Zimbabwe diplomatic ties
(MENAFN) In Harare on Sunday, a friendly table tennis competition was held to celebrate 45 years of diplomatic ties between China and Zimbabwe. The event, organized by the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe alongside the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, brought together two teams of five players each—from Zimbabwe’s under-19 and senior national squads and from China.
Now in its fifth year, the tournament serves as an important platform for cultural exchange and sportsmanship between the two nations. Noah Ferenando, president of the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, emphasized that the event helps local players learn from their Chinese counterparts, boosting their skills and competitiveness.
He noted that Zimbabwean athletes have advanced significantly through this initiative, reaching levels that enable them to compete in regional and global championships, with some players achieving international rankings. “We have been moving from another level to a higher level and we are really grateful that things have been going on very well and we have been improving our game in the country. We have been scooping medals on the way, which means that this relationship that we have forged has actually been beneficial to us,” Ferenando said.
