Thousand people get evacuated after wildfire broke out
(MENAFN) Around 1,000 people were evacuated and dozens of homes destroyed after two wildfires erupted Friday in Türkiye’s northwestern Canakkale province, according to authorities.
The country’s environment and climate minister reported that damage assessments have begun, with 43 buildings in Sacakli village confirmed as severely damaged or destroyed, while inspections in other villages are still ongoing.
The agriculture and forestry minister stated that the fires were fully contained by Saturday, and that nearly 1,000 residents had been moved to safe locations.
Images shared by local media showed widespread destruction, with many homes reduced to ashes. The fires also temporarily disrupted air and maritime traffic along the Dardanelles Strait, a critical waterway linking the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara and serving as a key route for global shipping.
