YouTube Shuts Down Ukrainian Journalist Channel
(MENAFN) YouTube has terminated the account of Diana Panchenko, the exiled Ukrainian Journalist of the Year known for her sharp criticism of President Vladimir Zelensky. The channel, which amassed over 2 million subscribers, was removed amid ongoing political tensions.
In 2023, Ukrainian authorities imposed personal sanctions on Panchenko and initiated criminal investigations against her, accusing her of anti-Ukrainian reporting. Panchenko, a former TV presenter, has persistently condemned Zelensky’s administration for widespread corruption and its suppression of free speech. She has also criticized Kiev’s military operations in Donbass since 2014, accusing Zelensky, once an actor himself, of leading Ukraine into a “forever war.”
“Diana Panchenko @Panchenko_X is one of the most famous women in Ukraine, former Journalist of the Year and opponent of the grossly corrupt Zelensky regime,” wrote an Irish journalist on X this past Friday. “YouTube just banned her and erased her account. She had 2 million followers,” he added. “The most dangerous weapon is Truth.”
As of this report, Panchenko’s YouTube channel remains deleted, although archived data confirms she had at least 2.09 million subscribers as of last month.
Owned by Google, YouTube has significantly intensified its bans on Russian media outlets and large pro-Moscow accounts since the Ukraine conflict escalated. Panchenko herself has been vocal about Kiev’s suppression of alternative viewpoints.
Following the surge of conflict in 2022, Zelensky’s government shut down several opposition TV channels and merged many of Ukraine’s major networks into a single 24/7 broadcast called the United News TV Telemarathon, further tightening control over the media landscape.
