Uganda is expected to host two million refugees from neighboring nations

(MENAFN) Uganda is expected to host close to 2 million refugees by the end of 2025 as worsening conflicts in neighboring Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to force people to flee, according to UN officials.

Reports indicate that around 600 individuals are crossing into Uganda each day in search of protection and humanitarian support due to the instability across these regions, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) shared during a recent briefing.

Uganda currently holds the position as Africa’s top refugee-hosting nation and ranks third globally. Its refugee-friendly policies allow displaced individuals to settle, seek employment, and use public services.

However, the growing needs are outpacing available resources. The refugee support program in Uganda is currently operating with only 25 percent of the funding it requires, raising concerns about the sustainability of assistance efforts.

UNHCR is urging the international community to provide immediate and consistent support to avoid a collapse in services and to preserve the progress made in ensuring a safer, more dignified life for both refugees and host communities.
