Ghanaian leader calls on African leaders to build inclusive governance
(MENAFN) Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has urged African leaders to strengthen inclusive governance frameworks and safeguard civil liberties throughout the continent.
Speaking at the opening of the 13th African Union High-Level Dialogue on Democracy, Governance and Human Rights in Accra, Mahama stressed that both inclusive leadership and civil rights protections are vital for building legitimate and enduring states.
Addressing the theme, "Justice, Right, Reparation and State Building," he emphasized that the event must not become merely ceremonial. “This dialogue should not become another ceremonial event filled with lofty speeches but void of action,” he said.
Mahama called for the protection of press freedom and the empowerment of youth, women, and marginalized communities. “We must protect the freedom of the press and heed and protect the voices of the youth, women, and marginalized groups,” he added.
He also pressed African leaders to turn their democratic pledges into real reforms, warning that disillusionment is growing, particularly among the younger generation.
