Humanitarian Aid Convoy Reaches Syria’s Suwayda
(MENAFN) A fourth humanitarian convoy reached Syria’s southern Suwayda province on Tuesday, according to official state media.
Media reported that the convoy, comprising 22 trucks, entered the region via the Busra al-Sham crossing in eastern Daraa.
The shipment included 27,000 liters of fuel, 2,000 food baskets, 2,000 hygiene kits, 10,000 bottles of drinking water, 40 tons of flour, and medical supplies, the agency detailed.
Media emphasized that the convoy was organized “through joint efforts between the Syrian government, international organizations, and the local community.”
Earlier on Monday, Suwayda Governor Mustafa al-Bakour stated that since stability returned earlier this month, aid convoys have distributed 96 tons of flour and 85,000 liters of fuel to families in need.
He also highlighted that convoys “enter the province daily and without obstruction through Busra al-Sham, with roads remaining open for humanitarian organizations.”
Violence erupted in Suwayda on July 13 between Bedouin Arab tribes and armed Druze factions. The clashes escalated, prompting Israeli airstrikes targeting Syrian military sites and infrastructure, including areas near Damascus.
While Israel justified its strikes by citing the “protection of Druze communities,” most Druze leaders within Syria have openly condemned foreign intervention and reaffirmed their allegiance to a unified Syrian state. A ceasefire was declared earlier this month.
Since the removal of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, the new Syrian government has been striving to restore order throughout the country.
