Armed Attack in Ecuador Leaves Five Dead

(MENAFN) At least five individuals lost their lives in a violent armed attack early Tuesday at a three-story residence in Manabi, a province on Ecuador’s troubled Pacific coast, according to a news outlet.

Authorities responded promptly after receiving an emergency call, and initial findings reveal that the assailants opened fire on the victims.

Among those killed, four had criminal backgrounds involving charges such as illegal weapon possession, robbery, murder, and drug trafficking. The fifth victim was a 16-year-old boy.

The National Police have linked the surge in violence in Manabi to an intensifying turf conflict between two powerful criminal gangs competing for dominance over drug trafficking, money laundering, and extortion operations in the area.
