French Pres. Urges Int'l Action To Halt Gaza Humanitarian Catastrophe
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
PARIS, July 26 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has reached an "unacceptable" level, warning of its repercussions on regional stability.
He also called on the international community to take urgent action to address the situation.
This came in a phone call with Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi on Saturday.
Following the call, Macron wrote on his X account that he discussed with the Egyptian leaders ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and reviewed the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip.
He warned that the Israel's obstruction of aid delivery and the expansion of its military operations risk cause famine and forced displacement of the Strip's population.
He noted that they reviewed ways to support international efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the immediate and large-scale entry of humanitarian aid.
President Marcon indicated that they agreed on the need for launching a political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel.
In this context, he stressed that the deaths of civilians, especially children, as a result of hunger and denial of healthcare are "unacceptable," calling for concrete action at the conference scheduled to be held in New York on July 28 and 29, as an opportunity to develop a comprehensive humanitarian and political roadmap.
Egypt, along with the United Kingdom, co-chairs the working group on the reconstruction of Gaza and the West Bank, he pointed out, praising Cairo's pivotal role in this regard.
He explained that France will continue to coordinate with international partners during the UN General Assembly meetings next September, as Paris continues to push for international recognition of the State of Palestine as part of a permanent and comprehensive solution to the conflict. (end)
