Israeli Envoy to Russia Awaits Departing Post Early
(MENAFN) Israeli Ambassador to Russia, Simona Halperin, will conclude her tenure ahead of schedule due to a new position she has been appointed to, according to reports from Russian media on Monday, which referenced officials at the embassy.
Her departure is anticipated to take place sometime during the upcoming autumn season.
Earlier that same day, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on X confirming Halperin’s new role as deputy director-general for Europe.
The ministry, however, did not indicate whether she would be returning from Russia right away.
Nevertheless, embassy personnel in Moscow informed a news agency that Halperin is expected to continue her responsibilities until at least October.
"The ambassador will end her mission early, due to the fact that she received the position of head of the European Department at the Israeli Foreign Ministry… It is expected that Madam Ambassador will leave in October," a representative noted, also mentioning that a successor has yet to be announced.
Simona Halperin, who was born in Riga in 1969, previously resided in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) before moving to Israel in 1976.
She has been with the Israeli Foreign Ministry since 1993, serving in various international postings. Her appointment as Israel’s ambassador to Russia took place in November 2024.
