Lebanon Responds to U.S. Deal Tying Hezbollah to Israeli Pullout

(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has formally delivered Beirut’s official response to a United States proposal that seeks to dismantle the Hezbollah militant group in return for a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. A senior political source shared the development with Anadolu on Monday, underlining the critical nature of the diplomatic exchange.

The proposed deal, presented by Washington, ties the disarmament of Hezbollah to a phased Israeli pullout from Lebanese territory—an arrangement viewed by many as a potential breakthrough in easing tensions along the southern border. The proposal comes amid mounting regional pressure to stabilize the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah forces.

Confirming the diplomatic engagement, the Lebanese presidency stated that President Aoun held talks with U.S. Envoy Tom Barrack at the presidential palace in eastern Beirut.

According to a post shared by the Lebanese presidency on X, Aoun officially handed over Lebanon’s response to the American envoy. The document outlines Beirut’s position on the conditions and expectations tied to its role under the proposed ceasefire agreement with Israel.

The exchange marks a pivotal moment in U.S.-led mediation efforts, as officials on both sides weigh the prospects of long-term de-escalation in a region marred by decades of hostility.
