Erdogan Calls for Stronger Ties with Northern Cyprus
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Türkiye’s president emphasized the importance of strengthening diplomatic, political, and economic relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), stating that the “decades of injustice” faced by the Turkish Cypriots must be put to an end.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a speech at a groundbreaking ceremony in Lefkosa, the capital of the TRNC, marked the 51st anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation.
He declared that despite efforts to block the Turkish Cypriots' path, Türkiye has always found ways to open new doors and take new paths.
Erdogan reiterated Türkiye's firm stance in supporting a two-state solution for Cyprus and called for the global community to acknowledge the current realities of the island's division. He firmly believes that this solution will come to fruition "sooner or later,” as he put it, signaling Türkiye’s long-term commitment to the cause.
Additionally, the president emphasized the critical role of tourism in the TRNC’s economic development and its global visibility.
Erdogan highlighted the transformation of the TRNC into a prominent Eastern Mediterranean destination, not only in terms of transportation but also in tourism, employment, and investment opportunities.
In closing, Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering support for TRNC President Ersin Tatar and his government, stressing the importance of continued collaboration in shaping the future of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, both politically and economically.
