Jaipur-Dubai Flights: Travellers Hit By New Cancellations, Delays

Jaipur may be known as the Pink City, but for passengers flying to and from Dubai, the only colour they're seeing is red.

Air travel between Jaipur and Dubai continues to be marred by repeated delays and last-minute cancellations, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded, confused, and angry.

On Thursday (July 17), chaos erupted again at Jaipur International Airport when two international flights failed to operate on time. Air India Express flight IX-195, scheduled to depart for Dubai at 5.55am, was cancelled just hours before takeoff. Passengers had begun arriving at the airport from as early as 3.30am only to be told the flight wouldn't operate due to“operational reasons.” Its incoming leg, IX-196 from Dubai to Jaipur, due at 12.45am, didn't take off either, reportedly due to a technical snag.

Adding to the woes, SpiceJet's SG-57 from Jaipur to Dubai, scheduled for 9.30am, was also delayed by over four hours. Flight data shows it finally departed at 1.30pm after the inbound aircraft arrived late. The return flight, SG-58 from Dubai, which was supposed to take off at 3.40am, was similarly delayed and departed at 7.39am.

These fresh disruptions come on the heels of a weekend meltdown. On July 13, SG-57 was delayed by nearly nine hours. The delay was caused by the late arrival of SG-58 from Dubai, which itself took off more than eight hours behind schedule. Passengers fumed over the lack of information, with many complaining they received no updates or support.

“There was no information for hours. We just kept waiting at the gate,” said Sharjah resident S. Parmar, who was travelling with his family.

“In nine hours, we could've made a round trip,” quipped another irate traveller.

Six-hour delay

A day earlier, on July 12, an Air India Express flight to Dubai was also delayed by six hours despite the incoming flight arriving on time. And on July 8, SG-57 had left Jaipur seven hours late.

SpiceJet later attributed the delays to extended aircraft servicing and flight crew exceeding duty limits.“The operation took longer than expected, and the operating crew crossed their Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL),” a spokesperson said, expressing regret for the inconvenience.

Khaleej Times had reached out to both SpiceJet and Air India Express for comments on the previous delays. Emails sent to SpiceJet did not elicit any response. An email sent to Air India Express regarding the cancellation of another flight on a different sector on Wednesday was still awaited, with the airline saying it would need a day to respond.
