Tokyo Stock Market Edges Lower on Wednesday

(MENAFN) Tokyo's stock market closed slightly lower on Wednesday, with most investors staying on the sidelines ahead of Japan’s upper house election scheduled for the weekend.

The Nikkei 225, Japan's primary stock gauge, dipped 14.62 points, or 0.04%, from the previous day to settle at 39,663.40.

Meanwhile, the Topix index, which tracks a broader range of stocks, fell by 5.91 points, or 0.21%, ending the day at 2,819.40.

Market activity remained subdued and largely directionless, as traders reacted cautiously to recent polling data. Analysts noted that media surveys have indicated the ruling coalition, comprising the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito, may be at risk of losing its majority in the upcoming House of Councillors election.
