Mexican President Denounces U.S. Immigration Raid

(MENAFN) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum strongly denounced recent U.S. immigration raids targeting migrant workers in agricultural fields, warning that such actions are not only unjust but could also have devastating consequences for the U.S. economy.

In a press briefing on Friday, Sheinbaum stated, "These raids are deeply unfair and will severely damage the U.S. economy." She went on to stress the pivotal role of Mexican nationals and other Latino migrants in sustaining key sectors of the U.S. economy, particularly agriculture.

Sheinbaum emphasized that without their labor, states like California would face a crisis, saying, "Without that labor force, California and other states will see their fields go unharvested."

The Mexican president also revealed that following raids in California, personnel from Mexico's consulates are visiting local detention centers to assess the number of detained Mexican nationals.

In response to the raids, Sheinbaum announced a significant boost in funding to Mexico's consulates across the U.S., specifically for enhanced legal support for detained citizens. "Our brothers and sisters over there need legal assistance, and we're going to ensure they get it," she assured.

The raids, which took place on Thursday, were conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at two farms in southern California.
