Syrian Energy Chief Calls for Investment in Rebuilding War-Torn Sector
(MENAFN) On Monday, Syria’s energy minister Mohammed al-Bashir emphasized the urgent need for fresh investment to rebuild the country’s severely damaged energy infrastructure.
Speaking at the launch of the 6th Syria International Exhibition for Petroleum, Energy, and Mineral Resources—a four-day event drawing over 100 companies from 12 nations—al-Bashir highlighted the critical state of the sector.
"It is no secret that we are facing enormous challenges in the energy sector, foremost among them the dilapidated infrastructure left behind by long years of war in Syria," al-Bashir stated.
He stressed that these difficulties simultaneously present lucrative opportunities across the entire energy value chain, including exploration, drilling, transport, discharge, generation, and distribution.
Al-Bashir also pointed to Syria’s abundant oil, gas, and mineral resources, underscoring the government's focus on enhancing exploration, modernizing production methods, embracing innovative technologies, and maximizing the efficient use of natural assets.
"This is essential to achieving energy security and boosting our export and development capacities," he added.
