Kennedy brands US Democrats ‘war party’

(MENAFN) U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized the Democratic Party in an interview with Tucker Carlson, claiming it has strayed from its traditional values and morphed into a pro-war, pro-censorship entity primarily defined by its opposition to President Donald Trump.

Kennedy, once a lifelong Democrat and now a Trump administration official, said the party consistently flips its stance on key issues based on Trump’s positions. “The Democrats used to be anti-war,” he noted. “But when Trump spoke against the Ukraine war, they became the war party.” He added that they were once champions of free speech, but shifted toward censorship as soon as Trump promoted speech rights.

Though his own principles remain unchanged, Kennedy said he now finds himself alienated from former allies. He accused the party of abandoning its skepticism of the CIA, global trade deals like NAFTA, and even protections for women’s sports — issues Democrats once opposed but now support largely because Trump criticized them.

According to Kennedy, the party’s reflexive opposition to Trump is deeply partisan and undermines democracy. He cited George Washington’s warning against political factions, arguing that today’s partisanship is driven more by self-interest than patriotism.

Kennedy, a controversial figure for his past anti-vaccine advocacy and criticism of Covid-19 policies, defended his stance by clarifying that he supports immunization with proper safety protocols. He said most resistance to his role as Health Secretary comes not from scientists, but from the media and political figures aligned with corporate interests.

After endorsing Trump in 2024, Kennedy was appointed to lead U.S. healthcare policy, with the president stating he would let him “go wild” in the role.
