Ukrainian officials states Russian forces fired missiles at Kiev

(MENAFN) Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched a series of missile and drone attacks on the capital early Friday morning. While the Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the incident, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko urged residents to take shelter as air defenses engaged the incoming threats.

The first attacks began shortly after midnight, and by 4 a.m., multiple waves of strikes had hit mostly non-residential targets across several districts. Although there were no immediate reports of deaths, Klitschko confirmed that at least 14 people suffered injuries caused by falling debris from intercepted missiles and drones, which sparked fires in residential neighborhoods and private yards.

Moscow routinely conducts missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian military infrastructure, insisting that its operations avoid civilian targets and accusing Kiev of placing air defense systems near populated areas.

The timing of the strikes followed a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. During the conversation, Trump reportedly urged Russia to halt its military actions in Ukraine promptly. Putin expressed Moscow’s willingness to pursue diplomatic solutions but insisted that Russia would not retreat until the “well-known root causes” of the conflict were addressed.
