Trump states Putin does not want war to end
(MENAFN) According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump voiced dissatisfaction after a recent phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The call took place earlier in the week, and Trump shared his reaction while speaking to reporters on Friday after arriving back in Washington, D.C., from a pre-Fourth of July event held in Iowa.
"I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had (Thursday) with President Putin because I don’t think he’s there," Trump stated.
The American president expressed that Putin showed no signs of wanting to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has persisted for over three years.
"I’m just saying, I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad," he added.
Trump went on to criticize the previous leadership under Joe Biden, holding it responsible for the circumstances surrounding the war in Ukraine. He remarked, "I got stuck in the middle of it, just like I did with immigration and a lot of other things that they screwed up.”
He concluded his remarks by saying, "But I was not happy with the conversation.”
The former president had acknowledged earlier that the call with Putin had yielded no meaningful outcome toward achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine. Reflecting on the discussion, Trump explained that the two leaders had covered a wide range of topics.
"We had a call. It was a pretty long call. We talked about a lot of things, including Iran, and we also talked about, as you know, the war with Ukraine. I'm not happy about that," Trump said.
"No, I didn't make any progress with him today at all," he added.
