Blast at Gas Station in Italy Leaves Over Forty Wounded
(MENAFN) A powerful explosion at a gas station in eastern Rome early Friday morning has left 45 people injured, including emergency personnel, according to media reports.
The blast, which occurred at a station on Via Gordiani in the city's Prenestino district, resulted in 12 police officers, six firefighters, and three emergency rescuers among the victims. These responders had arrived at the scene following an initial smaller explosion, only to be caught in subsequent blasts.
Two individuals are in critical condition and are currently receiving life support, while six others have been designated as "code red"—Italy’s highest emergency classification.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with preliminary findings suggesting that a fuel pump may have detached from a tanker truck, triggering the deadly explosions. Investigations are ongoing as emergency crews work to secure the area.
