AJet Resumes Flights Between Istanbul, Damascus
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the inaugural flight from Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to Damascus, the Syrian capital, was successfully carried out in the post-Assad era.
According to a release by AJet, daily round-trip services to Damascus—recognized as a significant hub in the Middle East—have commenced from Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
This marks AJet as the first carrier to reestablish flights between Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen and Damascus after a 13-year hiatus.
Upon arrival following a two-hour journey, passengers were greeted with a special ceremony at Damascus International Airport.
During his address at the welcoming event in Damascus, Kerem Sarp, CEO of AJet, expressed pride in being the first airline since Turkish Airlines to reconnect Türkiye and Damascus by air after more than a decade.
Sarp stated, "Today, we made our first flight from Istanbul to Damascus."
He further announced, "On Friday, July 4, we will make our first direct flight from (the Turkish capital) Ankara to Damascus."
This development will establish AJet as the pioneer airline in many years to operate non-stop flights from Ankara to Damascus, he noted.
He concluded by highlighting that "From now on, AJet will operate daily flights from Istanbul and three flights per week from Ankara to Damascus International Airport."
