Amman, July 2 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Wednesday strongly condemned "dangerous" statements by members of the far-right Israeli government, the latest of which was a call by Justice Minister Yariv Levin to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.
In a statement, the Ministry reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories.
"Such statements are a flagrant violation of international law and Israel's obligations, as the occupying power in the Palestinian territories, and also constitute an unacceptable assault on the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent, sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital," said ministry spokesperson Sufian Al-Qudah.
He stressed the Kingdom's categorical rejection and strong condemnation of these statements, which underlined the Israeli government's extremist policies and ongoing illegal practices in the West Bank, including incursions and settlement construction and expansion.
These are a clear violation of international law, most notably UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, which emphasized the need to end the Israeli occupation, the illegality of colonial settlement construction, and the invalidity of all measures to annex occupied Palestinian territory, he said.
Al-Qudah warned of the consequences of escalatory Israeli policies, stressing that all Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank are entirely illegal and null and void.
He called on the international community to take the legal and moral responsibility to compel Israel, the occupying power, to halt its aggression against Gaza and violations in the West Bank, offer protection to the Palestinians, and fulfill their legitimate rights to an independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital.
"This is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region," he said.
