Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says democrats are sensitive to Trump
(MENAFN) U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has criticized the Democratic Party, accusing it of abandoning its historic principles to become a pro-war and pro-censorship force largely defined by opposition to President Donald Trump.
In a detailed interview with conservative host Tucker Carlson released Monday, Kennedy said the Democrats now automatically oppose any stance taken by Trump.
“The Democrats were the anti-war party,” Kennedy said. “But as soon as [Trump] expressed his opposition to the Ukraine war, they became the war party.”
“They were the party of free speech,” he continued. “When President Trump started advocating for free speech… the Democrats became openly for censorship.”
Kennedy, who has a longstanding Democratic background but briefly ran as an independent in 2024 before joining Trump’s administration in early 2025, stated that he still supports the same core principles but now faces resistance from former colleagues.
“These were people I was friends with my whole life and I have not changed… but the party has just a knee-jerk reaction against anything that is Trump,” he told Carlson.
He also pointed out how Democrats, once critical of institutions like the CIA and trade agreements such as NAFTA, reversed their stance after Trump voiced criticism. Additionally, Kennedy accused the party of undermining women’s sports, recalling that his uncle, Senator Edward Kennedy, helped author Title IX, the landmark U.S. law against sex-based discrimination.
“You can go on and on with those examples, but President Trump is literally dictating the platform of the Democratic Party. Anything that he says, they’re going to be against,” Kennedy said, framing the trend as symptomatic of broader issues in American politics.
