FM Urges Immediate Global Action To Address Gaza Humanitarian Crisis
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, July 1 (Petra) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi on Tuesday said the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza calls for "immediate" international action to enforce assistance delivery through relevant UN organizations, in implementation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Safadi said this situation in the Palestinian strip is due to the ongoing Israeli aggression and prevention of aid entry.
During his meeting with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, Safadi noted Israel's denial of the Palestinian people's right to food and medicine is a war crime and a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and shared human values.
Safadi added that the international community must address this situation "immediately and effectively".
Safadi underscored "centrality of UNRWA's irreplaceable" role in Gaza and in its five areas of operation, in accordance with its UN mandate, and Jordan's continued efforts to support the agency.
The FM also stressed the need for concerted efforts to immediately halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza, reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire agreement, and support efforts made by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to achieve this goal.
