Iraqi security forces kill three IS militants
(MENAFN) Iraqi security forces have killed three Islamic State (IS) militants during a counter-terrorism operation in northern Iraq, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service said Monday.
The operation, based on intelligence reports, took place in Kirkuk province, where counter-terrorism units clashed with the militants, the statement said. It did not specify the exact time or location of the engagement.
The Counter-Terrorism Service emphasized that operations against IS remnants will continue as part of efforts to fully eradicate the group's presence in the country.
Although Iraq officially declared victory over IS in 2017, the extremist group remains active in certain areas, carrying out sporadic attacks against security personnel and civilians, particularly in remote and desert regions.
