Turkish FM praises UK collaboration during joint press release
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan commended the strong collaboration between Türkiye and Britain during a joint press event with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Ankara. He emphasized the robust cooperation in areas such as economy, defense, and technology.
Fidan also acknowledged Britain’s supportive position on key regional issues, including conflicts in Gaza, Syria, Ukraine, and the broader Middle East, while welcoming the recent British move to ease certain sanctions on Syria.
Highlighting Türkiye’s strategic priorities, Fidan pointed out the importance of securing ceasefires, particularly between Iran and Israel, as well as in Gaza.
Trade between the two nations has approached nearly $30 billion annually, with both sides eager to further grow their economic relationship.
In his remarks, Lammy stressed the solid ties between the countries and spoke about an upcoming free trade agreement expected to unlock economic benefits valued at up to £28 billion ($38.36 billion).
"We look forward to the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement in the coming weeks and months," Lammy stated.
He further lauded Türkiye’s role in promoting peace amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict and reiterated joint efforts to ease the humanitarian situation in Gaza while working toward a two-state solution for Palestinians.
