China's Communist Party has reached new membership milestone
(MENAFN) China's Communist Party has reached a new membership milestone, with total numbers exceeding 100 million as of late 2024. This achievement comes just before the party’s 104th anniversary, marking a century-long evolution from a small political group to one of the world’s largest political organizations.
“The Communist Party of China has surpassed 100 million members. A significant milestone! From less than 60 members at its founding in 1921 to 100 million, always from the people and for the people,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning posted on X.
According to reports, by the close of 2024, party membership had reached over 100.27 million, reflecting an annual growth of around 1.09 million. This data was included in a newly issued report from the party’s Central Organization Department.
The number of grassroots-level party units also saw an increase, climbing to 5.25 million—up 74,000 compared to the previous year.
More than 2.13 million new members joined the Communist Party during 2024. Over half of these new recruits came from frontline work environments, 54.4% held at least a junior college education, and a large majority—83.7%—were under the age of 35.
By the end of 2024, approximately 57.79 million members, or 57.6% of the total, had attained a junior college degree or higher. Nearly 31 million members were women, accounting for 30.9% of the party’s overall membership.
