Pakistan, China Forge Stronger Strategic Partnership
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday emphasized the strengthening and evolving nature of the Pakistan-China "all-weather" strategic partnership, calling it the bedrock of Islamabad’s foreign policy and a driving force behind regional peace, development, and connectivity.
Addressing an event commemorating the 52nd anniversary of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, Dar pointed out that the bilateral ties between Pakistan and China continue to "reach new heights," responding to the changing global and regional landscape with expanded cooperation across various sectors.
“Our foreign policy remains proactive and result-oriented, and the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership continues to grow in depth and scope,” Dar stated. He went on to underline that the partnership is being elevated as needed to address the challenges of a rapidly transforming world.
He also spotlighted China’s pivotal role in advancing regional connectivity through inclusive, multilateral frameworks. Dar specifically mentioned the recent trilateral meetings—the China-Pakistan-Afghanistan and China-Pakistan-Bangladesh dialogues—as concrete examples of shared commitment to regional integration and cooperative progress.
The minister noted that the recent China-Pakistan-Afghanistan ministerial gathering in Beijing represented a "qualitative change" in bilateral relations, setting the stage for expanding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan.
“Such cooperation mechanisms, based on mutual benefit and common interest, are central to Pakistan’s pivot to geoeconomics,” Dar remarked.
Launched in 2013, CPEC is a cornerstone of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The corridor connects Gwadar Port in Pakistan with Kashgar in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The first phase of the project focuses on energy, transport, and industrial collaboration, while the next phase will extend to agriculture, livelihood projects, and more.
