Trump Signals Possible Iran Sanctions Relief if It Adopts Peace
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump indicated that sanctions on Iran could be removed if the nation adopts peaceful conduct and collaborates with Washington.
Speaking in a Sunday interview, Trump stated, "If they can be peaceful, and if they can join us, they are not going to do any more harm, I would take the sanctions off."
Emphasizing diplomacy over pressure, he added, "You get more sometimes with honey than you do with vinegar," and noted that easing sanctions "would make a big difference" for Tehran.
However, Trump previously paused efforts to ease sanctions following Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s declaration to target US military bases should Washington resume attacks against Iranian positions.
Uranium Evacuation Claims Disputed
Trump dismissed allegations that Iran moved enriched uranium ahead of US strikes, highlighting the heavy weight and logistical difficulties involved in such an operation.
According to the president, America "did not give much notice" before the attacks, making any uranium removal "hard" and "dangerous."
"They did not move anything. They did not think it was going to be actually doable what we did," Trump asserted.
He described Iran as "exhausted" from recent Israeli and American military actions and forecast a temporary halt in Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
"Last thing they are going to be doing right now, for a period of time, at least, is nuclear. They have had it," Trump warned.
Abraham Accords Set to Expand
Trump revealed that additional countries have shown interest in joining the Abraham Accord agreements, which normalize relations between Israel and Arab nations, though he withheld specific names.
"We have some really great countries in there right now, and I think we are going to start loading them up, because Iran was the primary problem," the president said, signaling a potential broadening of the regional alliance.
