China says attack on Iran harmed US credibility
(MENAFN) China has criticized the US for its recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, stating that the strikes violated international law and damaged Washington’s credibility. Chinese Ambassador to the UN Fu Cong condemned the US actions during a Security Council meeting, saying the attacks harmed not only Iran but also the US’s reputation as a responsible international actor.
Both Iran and Israel recently confirmed a ceasefire after nearly two weeks of conflict triggered by Israeli “preemptive” strikes on Iranian territory and personnel linked to its nuclear program, amid accusations that Tehran was close to developing nuclear weapons. The US joined the campaign over the weekend, bombing several Iranian nuclear sites.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that targeting nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) breaches the UN Charter. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing is willing to enhance communication and cooperation with all parties to help restore peace in the Middle East.
The joint Israeli-US strikes have faced global condemnation. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the attacks as “unprovoked aggression” and illegal under international law. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also criticized the operation, saying most countries oppose it and accusing President Donald Trump of dragging the US into another conflict, diminishing his chances for a Nobel Peace Prize.
