Large Wave of Afghan Refugee Families Head Back Home

(MENAFN) On Monday alone, roughly 1,500 Afghan refugee families made their way back to Afghanistan from neighboring Pakistan and Iran, a news agency reported Tuesday.

According to the state-run outlet, "A total of 1,469 Afghan refugee families returned via several crossing points, with the majority of them from Iran yesterday."

The agency also noted that Afghan authorities provided all returning families with essential support at the border crossings.

The influx of Afghan refugees returning from Iran has surged following Israeli attacks on Tehran since June 13, with daily entries reaching up to 10,000 last week.

Over the past two years, nearly 2 million Afghan refugees have repatriated to their homeland.
