Tragic Roof Collapse Kills Two Teens in Afghanistan

(MENAFN) A tragic roof collapse late Monday night in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province claimed the lives of two teenagers and left a child wounded, according to Mawlawi Mohammad Akram Akbari, the provincial head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority.

The fatal incident occurred in Khasar village, located in the Shahr-i-Bazarg district. Two teenagers perished on the spot and a child suffered from injuries, Akbari confirmed during a statement on Tuesday.

Authorities attributed the collapse to the structure's age and materials. The home, constructed from traditional mud bricks, gave way during the night.

Afghanistan's rural regions—especially those suffering from prolonged conflict and severe poverty—often rely on such vulnerable mud-built homes. These structures are at high risk of failure during natural events like heavy rainfall, snowfall, or flooding.
