Brunei Demands Collective Effort to Safeguard Forests, Reefs
(MENAFN) In a strong call to action, a Brunei government minister emphasized Tuesday that safeguarding the nation’s forests and reefs is a collective responsibility, not one solely borne by the government.
This declaration highlights Brunei’s dedication to its National Biodiversity Policy and Strategic Plan of Action 2024-2030, which aligns seamlessly with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, explained Haji Manaf Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, during the Brunei Conference on Forest to Reef in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Sudono Salim, co-founder and chief growth officer of Jejakin—a platform specializing in carbon footprint management—commended Brunei for its pristine air quality. He underscored the critical role of blue carbon ecosystems, naturally sequestered by coastal habitats like mangroves, in combating climate change.
The event centered on advancing both blue and green economic sectors, including eco-tourism and carbon trading, while strengthening education, professional networks, and capacity-building efforts focused on biodiversity preservation, climate resilience, and disaster risk mitigation.
Moreover, the conference advocates incorporating global best practices and emerging economic prospects into Brunei’s integrated forest-to-reef management strategies.
