Manchester City’s Manager Voices Strong Support for Gaza’s Children
(MENAFN) Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, voiced strong support for Gaza’s children on Monday, condemning Israel’s devastating conflict in the region that has claimed over 54,000 lives since October 2023 and left the area nearly unlivable.
Honored with an honorary doctorate by the University of Manchester for his impact on the city both in football and beyond, Guardiola used his acceptance speech to highlight the human cost of the ongoing violence.
Describing the situation as “deeply painful” and physically agonizing, Guardiola insisted the issue transcends political beliefs.
"It's not about whether I'm right, or you're wrong. Come on. It's just about the love of life, about the care of your neighbor. Maybe we think that we see the boys and girls of 4 years old being killed by the bomb or being killed at the hospital because it's not a hospital anymore. It's not our business," he said.
The 54-year-old manager revealed the profound emotional impact the conflict has on him, as he pictures his own children each morning amidst the horror faced by Gaza’s infants.
"We can think about that. It's not our business. But be careful. The next one will be ours. The next 4 or 5 years old kids will be ours. Sorry, but I see my kids when I wake up every morning since the nightmare started with the infants in Gaza. And I'm so scared. Maybe this image feels far away from where we are living now. And you might ask what we can do," Guardiola added.
Under Guardiola’s leadership, Manchester City has achieved unprecedented success, becoming the first club to win four consecutive English Premier League titles and the first to reach 100 points in a single Premier League season.
In his eight full seasons, Guardiola has guided City to 18 major trophies, including six Premier League crowns, one UEFA Champions League title, and a historic treble in the 2022-2023 campaign.
