Mexican Police Perform Operation Without Authorization

(MENAFN) Mexican Leader Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Tuesday that state police carried out an unauthorized incursion across the border into Guatemalan land without official permission.

On June 8, a violent encounter took place between suspected criminals and Mexican security forces in Frontera Comalapa, a town in Chiapas located at Mexico’s southeastern border with Guatemala.

The clash triggered a chase that continued into Guatemalan territory as the suspects fled southward to evade Mexican police.

Mexican officials reported that four suspects were killed, several vehicles were confiscated, and the remaining alleged criminals managed to cross into Guatemala.

Footage and eyewitness accounts shared on social networks from both sides of the border captured the moment Mexican patrol units sped across into Guatemalan territory.

President Sheinbaum publicly acknowledged and criticized the police’s actions, calling them a breach of national sovereignty.

She demanded a detailed inquiry and disciplinary measures for those responsible.

"It should never happen that Mexican forces -- in this case, police from Chiapas -- enter Guatemala. You cannot violate the sovereignty of another country. We do not agree with this, and those officers must be sanctioned,” she declared.

Additionally, Sheinbaum urged the formation of a joint task force between Mexico and Guatemala to share intelligence and combat local criminal organizations.
