SNP Supports Cutting Diplomatic Ties with Israel
(MENAFN) The head of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the House of Commons declared on Tuesday that an independent Scotland led by the SNP would sever diplomatic relations with Israel and shut down its embassies.
Stephen Flynn, during an interview on a podcast, voiced strong criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza. He expressed that it was “difficult to comprehend how you can deal with people who are so insistent upon killing a civilian population in the way that they are.”
His comments reflect growing frustration and condemnation of the ongoing violence in the region.
Flynn also conveyed profound sorrow and anger regarding the situation in Gaza, where fighting continues to claim lives. He denounced the United Kingdom's stance, calling it ineffective and saying that the country’s response “has been so weak for far too long.”
He pointed out that he has repeatedly heard similar commitments from Foreign Secretary David Lammy and the Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, while in Parliament. Flynn said, “I’ve gone into the House of Commons on God knows how many occasions now and listened to David Lammy and Hamish Falconer, the Middle East minister, and they’ve told us how ‘we’re going to do this, or we’re going to do that, and this is the latest thing we’re going to do.’” He continued by quoting officials who say, “‘but they’re ignoring us,’” to which Flynn retorted, “Well, if they’re ignoring you, then do something that captures their attention.”
Since October 2023, Israel has maintained a relentless military campaign in the Gaza Strip, disregarding widespread international appeals for a ceasefire.
This offensive has resulted in nearly 55,000 Palestinian deaths, the majority of whom are women and children.
Humanitarian organizations have raised serious concerns about a looming famine in Gaza, warning that over 2 million residents are at grave risk due to the prolonged conflict and blockade.
